Abstract

Fiber sensor technologies have been, studied about 20 years, during which a variety of photonic phenomena for the sensing, signal processing schemes, and application fields have been proposed and researched utilizing optical fiber characteristics. Fibers themselves can act as the sensor for rotation, current, pressure, temperature, strain, and so on. Beside of the intrinsic sensing functions of the fiber described above, the use of the fiber as a signal transmission device has also provided novel sensing systems with the advantage of immunity from electric and/or mechanical environment.
