Abstract

Nonlinear optical properties of giant molecules are of great interest for both fundamental nonlinear optics and application of these materials in optoelectronic devices. It is already well-known that C60 molecules possess a strong SHG although it is forbidden by symmetry in electric- dipole approximation. The reason of this strong SHG is electron delocalization giving rise to electric-quadrupole and magnetic dipole contributions. Modification of C60 molecules by adding dipole- active "tails" can increase the asymmetry of electron delocalization resulting in SHG enhancement.
