Abstract

The enhancement of the third order nonlinear optical susceptibility χ(3)(—ω; ω, ω, —ω) in diphenylhexatriene (DPH) when the system is optically pumped into π- electron excited states, has been studied theoretically1 and experimentally.2 Enhancements in χ(3)(—ω; ω, ω,—ω) as high as 1000 times have been achieved.3
