Abstract

If an atom interacts with the quasiresonant laser field some mechanical forces act on this atom. Let ω0 be the frequency of the atomic transition, ωL the frequency of the laser field, while E(r), amplitude of the laser field, depends drastically on r. Then the gradient (or dipole) force acts on atom.
