Abstract
Modulational instability (MI) occurs in Kerr media as a result of the interplay of dispersion and cubic nonlinearities, leading to sidebands generation around a strong cw. However, it was recently realized that MI may occur also in media with quadratic nonlinearities (i.e., non- centrosymmetric).1 In free-space second- harmonic generation, two sideband pairs are expected to build up around both the ω0 and 2ω0 fields of fire mixing eigenmode.
