Abstract

When the cavity length is mismatched to modulation frequency, the modelocked pulses produce chaos. The phenomena were observed experimentally in an acousto-optically modelocked Ar laser1 and in a synchronously modelocked dye laser.2 However, the whole scenario has not yet been observed except in a recent paper of Sucha et al.,3 in which the modelocked laser is shown to develop into chaos through period doubling cascade or Hopf bifurcation. The development through doubling of torus is not yet observed. In this paper, the doubling of torus in an acousto-optically modelocked Ti:sapphire laser will be discussed.
