Ultrafast photochemistry of chlorine dioxide in water studied by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy

Abstract

The photoreactivity of chlorine dioxide (OCIO) has been a subject of great interest because of its possible role in the stratospheric ozone depletion and also because of its highly medium-dependent photochemistry.1 We have investigated the ultrafast dynamics of the liquid-phase photochemistry of OCIO using time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy.2 In this report, we present the transient absorption results for OCIO in aqueous solution obtained with femtosecond time resolution.3 The transient absorption dynamics were studied with a wide range of probe spectral coverage, from 350-700 ran, A select set of the transient absorption data is shown in Fig. 1.
