Abstract
The energy transfer from one beam to another in a two-wave interaction in a nonlinear Kerr medium is known to be suppressed when the two beams have the same frequency. Here we demonstrate that this suppression does not exist for short duration optical pulses because of the difference between self- and cross-phase modulation for pump and signal beams, respectively.
