Abstract

Recently Elitzur and Wcidmatin1 pointed out the possibility of performing an “interaction-free” measurement to infer the presence of an object without any photons directly “interacting” with the object. Denoting by P(found) the probability of finding the object–a photon-sensitive “bomb”–and by P( absorb) the probability of a photon being absorbed, a figure of merit is.
