Polarization Locking in a Modelocked Soliton Fiber Laser

Abstract

A modelocked fiber laser that contains no explicit polarizing elements is observed to lock its polarization into a fixed state. The complex locking behavior depends on cavity birefringence and cannot be completely described by a simple model.
