Abstract

We present new measurements on the non-sequential double ionization (NSDI) of molecules. We find that while NSDI occurs in N₂, the N₂²⁺ ion is always left in the metastable ground state. NSDI does not occur In H₂ with an upper bound of 10⁻⁵.
