Self-stabilizing additive-pulse modelocking through thermo-optical effect in an optical fiber

Abstract

Additive-pulse modelocking (APM) requires an appropriate phase bias of the coupled cavities. Since fluctuations of cavity lengths are unavoidable, some kind of stabilization is required. A commonly used electronic servo loop1 makes use of the fact that the intensity in the external resonator (or its second harmonic) depends on that phase bias. Thus, comparison with some reference level yields an error signal.
