Abstract

Surface plasmons (SPs) in metal nanoparticles show pronounced optical absorption resonances as a result of coupling of the light to the collective electron oscillation. Here we study the damping of the SP resonance induced by high-intensity optical excitation of the electron gas in gold colloids.
