Abstract

After initially obtaining qualitative evidence for Bose-Einstein condensation (BBC) in magnetically trappet] ⁷Li,¹ we have now made quantitative measurements of condensate number.² Unlike ⁸⁷Rb and ²³Na, the other species in which BEC has been observed, ⁷Li has a negative scattering length, indicating that the interatomic interactions are effectively attractive.
