Abstract
While heavy-light hole quantum beats of excitons in quantum wells have been observed for many years,1 the presence of such beating phenomena in the band-to-band continuum of bulk GaAs has been found only recently.2,3 We present a theoretical analysis of these quantum beats observed in pump-probe experiments2,3 where we will discuss in particular the role of Coulomb correlations and scattering processes. The calculations are performed in the framework of the semiconductor Bloch equations for a three-band model, including electrons, heavy (hh), and light (Ih) holes.
