Vacuum-squeezed solids: Two-phonon coherent states in KTaO3

Abstract

We use ultrafast pulses to excite KTaO3 into a nonclassical state that is the material counterpart of vacuum-squeezed light.1 The state involves a continuum of phonoris, but is quasi-oscillatory in nature for there is a dominant frequency associated with a van Hove singularity.
