Abstract

We report an experimental study of tunneling in the center-of-mass motion of ultracold atoms. Our system consists of laser-cooled atoms that are accelerated in a frequency-chirped standing wave of light. This system was previously used to observe Wannier-Stark ladders1,2 and Bloch oscillations3 in the regime of small accelerations.
