Soliton dynamics in periodically varying dispersion systems

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Optical solitons are well known and understood in optical fibers with constant dispersion. This paper examines the behavior of soli-tons (or soliton-like pulses) in a system with periodically oscillating dispersion The interesting situation is where the global dispersion is low but the local dispersion is large. It is found by numerical investigation and analysis that a new type of soli ton pulse is obtained with enhance energy threshold and breathing pulse shape.
