Abstract

Laser cooling and trapping of non-alkali species is interesting in part because of important applications, but also because novel aspects of the cooling physics may require innovative cooling strategies. For alkaline earths, low vapor pressure and loss of population from the cooling transition lead to modifications of the standard magneto-optical trap (MOT).
