A multicoil Zeeman slower

Abstract

We have used a multicoil Zeeman slower1 to magnetically compensate for the changing Doppler sbijfl2 in a decelerating atomic beam. The slow atoms are loaded into a magneto-optic trap (MOT).-' This slower can be easily reconfigured as experimental conditions change because each of the 10 identical segments in the electromagnet is independently adjustable.
