Abstract

The recent experimental observation of Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of trapped, dilute gas of alkali atoms,1 and their manipulation have opened a new chapter in the physics of systems involving the interplay of macroscopics and quantum coherence. Foundational problems of quantum theory2,3 and condensed matter like gauge symmetry-breaking can now possibly be investigated in these BEC systems.
