Abstract
The dynamics of the nonlinear refractive response of transparent materials are of concern for soliton propagation in fibers1 and pulse formation in KLM lasers.·1 However, to date little information on the dynamics of optical nonlinearities on time scales <100 fs is available. This lack of data is partially due to the lack of an experimental scheme that combines ease of use with the high sensitivity required to detect the small changes in the refractive index in non-resonant interactions.
