Abstract
Magneto-optical traps (MOTs) have been demonstrated and widely used for capturing cold samples of alkali, metastable rare gas and alkaline-earth atoms. Studies in areas such as basic atomic physics, cold collisions, BoseEinstein condensation, and atom optics have all benefited from the use of such traps.
