Abstract
Recently, Truscott et al.1 demonstrated guiding of a 780nm probe beam by a Laguerre-Gaussian doughnut beam. Using an intense pump beam tuned to the 111 line of rubidium (795nm), they showed that a probe beam, detuned to the red side of the D2 line (780nm), was guided into the dark, central spot of the doughnut through rubidium vapour contained in a 10 cm long glass cell.
