Abstract
It is now possible to perform all the major functions of optical communication in fiber based devices. This includes amplification, laser oscillation, dispersion correction, filtering, and modulation. The talk will describe the basic physics of all of these applications in their fiber setting and how they might be applied to an All in the Fiber Communication system in which the light is born, manipulated, and transmitted without ever leaving the optical fiber environment.
