Abstract

Dielectric core-metal shell nanoparticles. known as metal nanoshells, have been shown to possess broadly tunable plasmon resonances whose frequency can be controlled In the relative thickness of the nanoparticlc layers. The plasmon resonance of a silica core-gold shell nanoshell can be shifted in wavelength from 560 nm to > 2 μn by varying the relative size of the core and shell.1,2
