Abstract

We determine the conditions under which desirable nonlinear processes such as nonlinear ellipse rotation can be exploited in bulk media at powers that are many times above critical power for self-focusing. Application of this scheme to pulse-contrast enhancement of ultrahigh-power laser pulses is explored.
