Experimental generation of ”Schrödinger kitten” states of free-propagating light

Abstract

We generated “Schrödinger kitten” states, defined as quantum superpositions of small coherent states, by conditional photon subtraction from squeezed light pulses. They present negative Wigner functions and are suitable for quantum information processing.
