Interaction of a Single Trapped Ion with Heralded Single Photons

Abstract

We demonstrate single trapped ion-single photon interaction by the detection of quantum jumps, strongly correlated with the detection of the quantum-correlated heralding photon. This is a step towards controlling single-photon absorption and transferring photon-to-atom entanglement.
