Increased Optical Intensity near High Order Degenerate Photonic Band Edges for Nonlinear Applications

Abstract

We show theoretically that Degenerate Band Edges (DBEs) lead to high optical intensities. A method is proposed to create arbitrary DBE, (ωωD) = k2n, for any integer n, by coupling n optical modes by multiple superimposed periodic structures.
