Optical Orientation in Bulk Germanium

Abstract

Ultrafast magneto-optics in bulk germanium reveals optical orientation of charge carriers via both direct and indirect optical transitions. At low temperatures, electron (hole) spins have remarkably long coherence times of 1 ns ( 100 ps).
