Abstract

We present an analytical model of “coupled modes” describing enhancement of emission by the atoms and molecules placed within complexes of metal nanoparticles and apply it to the case where an emitter is placed inside the gap of two coupled Au nanospheres. This new approach has dual advantages of revealing the underling physics of the enhancement and opening straightforward path towards optimization.
