Abstract
The power of laser-recoil cooling and optical trapping of single ions has led to a variety of fascinating experiments investigating the fundamental interactions between light and matter which test our understanding of quantum physics 1,2. Cooling and trapping of molecules, however, has failed to date because the large number of vibrational and rotational modes present prevent the use of laser cooling techniques.
