Slow Light with Opto-acoustic Gap Solitons

Abstract

Optical gap solitons can couple to acoustic waves through electrostriction, giving rise to “gap-acoustic” solitons (GASs). We show that supersonic GASs are unstable, which results in changes in speed, and ultimately very slow (subsonic) light.
