Optical jitter and pulse distortion in high bit-rate, slow-light Mach-Zehnder interferometers

Abstract

Slow-light waveguides formed by photonic crystal coupled-cavities can be used to reduce the size of integrated MZI switches. We demonstrate that in these devices optical jitter causes significant pulse distortion at bit-rates above 100 Gbits/s.
