Reactive In-Situ Processing of Silicon Optical Fiber

Abstract

Silicon carbide (SiC) is added to the silicon (Si) core of crystalline core optical fibers to provide an in-situ reactive getter of oxygen to achieve oxygen-free fibers in order to minimize scattering and propagation loss.
