Self-focusing of Optical Beams Below the Diffraction Limit

Abstract

We present simulations of the self-focusing effect in nonlinear media for cw and pulsed input. Although some energy is lost during the process, the resulting self-trapped beams have widths below Abbe’s diffraction limit.
