OH Diffusion Control in the Shaped Optical Fiber Preforms Based on CO2 Laser

Abstract

Removing ~200 µm of preforms surface by hydrofluoric acid before CO2 laser shaping can reduce the attenuation attributed to OH diffusion of 81 dB/km (43%) compared to the nonetched shaped performs.
