Abstract

We give, based on optical ray-tracing, a comprehensive survey on the parameters that effect color conversion and light scattering within the color conversion elements of phosphor converted white LED light sources. Studies range from the differences of the refractive indices to variations of the phosphor particle sizes and identify their impacts on the color temperatures and the luminous efficacies of the LEDs. In addition, the study highlights the huge potential the optimization of the scattering conditions provides for the improvement of the efficacies of white LED light sources.
