Increasing Polarization-Mode Dispersion Tolerance of Coherent Receivers by Joint Optimization of Chromatic Dispersion and Butterfly Equalizers

Abstract

We propose a joint equalizer optimization technique and show that this technique can restore the PMD tolerance of a coherent receiver that is degraded by other inter-symbol-interference impairments such as residual CD and narrow-band filtering.
