Probabilistic Shaping and Polar-Coded Pulse-Amplitude Modulation for Optical Communications

Abstract

Probabilistic shaping is combined with coded pulse-amplitude modulation to improve the power- and spectral efficiency of intensity-modulated optical communications. q-ary Polar codes are considered to achieve a scheme well suited to rate adaptation.
