Polarization Dependent Loss: Fundamental Limits and How to Approach Them

Abstract

PDL impairs Pol-Mux systems and limits their capacity. Significant gains are achieved when signaling and channel equalization are properly addressed. Compared with mismatched processing, 0.9dB gain is measured for error-free transmission at PDL=6dB.
