A Multiple-Stream Intensity-Modulation Scheme for Optical Channels with Unknown Gain and Offset

Abstract

We propose a novel modulation scheme for intensity-modulated optical communications with direct detection which can be optimally decoded without requiring knowledge or estimation of the channel gain and/or DC offset. A prototype was also implemented.
