Abstract
Single–atom harmonic generation spectra fall off at an energy equal to the ionization energy plus about three times the oscillation energy of a free electron in the field [1]. We have explored experimentally this cutoff law using a short pulse Ti: Sapphire laser. We show how this law is modified by the effect of propagation in the nonlinear medium. Moreover, the generation of high order harmonics from Xe+ and Ar+ ions is demonstrated.
