Abstract

We have searched for self-channeling of 140 fs, 2.3 TW laser pulses in plasmas and observe a null result in experiments using nitrogen and argon. However, we observe an increase in the Rayleigh range of a factor of 3 in 100 torr of ionized helium.at lower than predicted laser power.
