Abstract

We have exploited the enhanced absorption of laser energy by structured targets to develop efficient short- pulse x-ray sources. We measured enhancement of x-ray emission from grating targets and 1 mJ of x-ray emission above a kilovolt from porous gold targets. We also studied broadband emission and K-shell spectra from porous aluminum targets.
