Abstract
We present a Ti:Sapphire-Nd:glass system which generates pulses of duration 440 fs and 55 TW peak power at 1064 nm. We discuss the implementation of a technique in order to prevent narrowing allowing to generate pulses with duration below 250 fs. The contrast ratio after the Ti:Sapphire regenerative amplifier has been measured to be less than 10-7. We determine the temporal aberrations induced by the different kinds of misalignments of the gratings and we emphasize the importance of spatially transverse effects. The basic principle of self compensation is then introduced. Finally, a new compressor and focusing system allowing to reach intensities in the range 1019 - 1020 W/cm2 is described.
