Principal and Experimental Demonstration of Nano-scale Sensing with Highly-confined Guided Evanescent Lightwave

Abstract

Overlap of evanescent fields in coupled waveguides can strongly confine the optical field in between the waveguides. At very small separations, sharp deviations in output powers are employed to realize sensing devices at nano-scale.
