Superposition Intensity Modulation Using Variable-Length On/Off Periods

Abstract

The data rate of IM/DD optical communication systems can be increased by superimposing individually switched light sources. In this paper we propose to use variable symbol durations and phase shifts as additional degrees of freedom.
