Monitoring Sag in Overhead Transmission Lines Using Chirped-Pulse Phase-Sensitive OTDR

Abstract

The capacity of overhead transmission lines is determined by physical properties and worst-case weather scenarios. Real-time sag monitoring enables dynamic capacity configuration and improved safety. Distributed acoustic sensing using CP-ΦOTDR measures cable vibrations, allowing sag calculation and monitoring with a single-end interrogator.
